When you get the error message hit F10 - this brings up a cmd shell. In an install, this generally means the source file, or, in this case, the CD. After cleaning the disc...insert the disc into the optical drive. Oh well, by the time Western Digital gets me a new one i'll likely have the Raptor hooked up and running. Such opinions may not be accurate and they are to be used at your own risk. I don't want to shell out the money and find out I don't need one, that's all. That noise coming from your optical drive...that may mean that it's having difficulty, either reading the disk inserted or operational difficulty. Previously I could open & run that DVD. When you run it, it will perform a lengthy and exhaustive analysis of your hard disk without modifying its contents. Data recovery and disk repair are often possible with the right tools. //Outlook started acting up, so as part of my attempts to fix it I tried to copy the PST and surprise surprise, nothing came up.

This actually sounds like a job for SpinRite. It will not install, what is the problem. If it doesn't work, then obviously CHKDSK wasn't able to repair the error you're experiencing. Here is a link to a thread that may help.

Chkdsk/r found and tried to repair files, but many were still not able to be copied to my new hard drive. You always want the original to go back to in case there's something else in it that you can recover manually.
