To evaluate Open Source Software in an effort to reduce the IT costs of Non-Government and Not for Profit Organisations.

Open Source Software for Non-Government Organisations

Introduction

This site has grown from The Wilderness Society's project to evaluate [Content Management Systems on Debian|Open Source Content Management Systems]. This project produced quite a lot of material as 14 CMSs were installed and reviewed to various depths. The Midgard Content Management Framework was the one finally selected and a new website was built utilising this CMS. You can see the documentation about this implementation [Website Implementation with Midgard|here].

Currently the documentation is created using the Drupal Content Management System's Collaborative Books feature. You can access it either by clicking on collaborative book in the navigation bar or clicking here.

How to Install and get started with Gaim

  1. Download and install the latest version of Gaim

    1. Go to the Gaim website and download the latest version.

NOTE: If you've never used SourceForge for downloading software before. You'll need to select a mirror (server/website) to download it from before the download can begin. I usually use Optus because I'm in Sydney, Australia and it's the closest (and hopefully the fastest) one for me.

Multi-sites, theme customisation and modules in Drupal

I had a preliminary look at multi-sites in drupal, theme customisation, the category module and use of other modules to get up a microsite in drupal. I have taken the opportunity to make this a more productive exercise by using a real world example and used the naea.org.au site as the basis of my drupal investigation. The coordinator had wanted some changes made to the site which I had not got around to so thought I would set it up so that she could make them herself and look at how you would use drupal to set up a small website focussed on an environmental campaign.

Setting up an article content type in Plone

| |

I had a look in the layout and presentation products of plone. BernArticle sounded interesting as it looks like it gives you a lot of flexibility for laying out your article. I installed it in the Products for my plone instance and then added the product to my tws site. All you have to do is unpack it to the Products directory and restart Zope and then go to "Site Setup" in your Plone site click on "Add/Remove Products" and then select "BernArticle .." from the "Products available for install" and click on Install.
